MFR Unwinding: Why Does My Body Move During Treatment? |

![]() The spontaneous movement of the body that can happen during MFR treatment, is called Unwinding. It is completely natural and very healing especially if you can quiet your thinking mind and tune in to your emotions and your felt senses. Imagine all the movement happening deep inside your body right now: vital fluids are flowing, things are moving through your gut, impulses are speeding across synapses and down neuronal pathways and so much more. The energy that innervates your body is flowing too, even when you're holding completely still. Body Wisdom It is that innate energy that moves your body during MFR treatment, if you let it. Our bodies actually know quite a bit about what they need in order to heal themselves but we are constantly shutting down this instinctive body wisdom and overruling it with our thinking minds. If we can instead quiet our thinking minds and tune in to our bodies and our instincts we will often find a sort of movement that just feels right. It feels like your body wants to move this way and that without you really thinking about it or deciding to move and perhaps without you even knowing why you want to move the way you do. It doesn't have to make sense to your thinking mind, it makes sense to your body and that's what matters here. A big part of our healing is learning to trust our bodies again and honor their wisdom. If we can connect our emotions to this spontaneous movement then Unwinding becomes an extremely powerful aspect of MFR healing. Healing with Subconscious Movement The movement of Unwinding is simply the body moving in ways that feel intuitive, unplanned and natural to it. The body is trying to heal itself by finding body positions that are significant for our healing but subconscious to us. These positions are often ones we experienced during injuries or traumas but because of the shock of a moment like that we don't even consciously remember being in these body positions. If we let it, our subconscious will bring us back into these significant positions of injury or trauma for the purposes of healing. When we have a shock, an injury or trauma we leave a piece of ourselves in that moment, sort of stuck there until we return to retrieve that lost piece. Unwinding can be so powerfully healing for this reason, it takes us back to retrieve those lost pieces of ourselves so that we can fully move on and complete this integral piece of our healing. But it is your subconscious that has to guide your unwinding and because we are all so well trained in childhood to hold still and suppress our instinctive movement, by the time we are adults we have all but completely forgotten that kind of freedom of motion. Fortunately, that river of energy still flows inside each of us if we can only quiet down, connect and feel it and dare to allow ourselves to find our instinctive movement once again. |
